#Microsoft to do alternative reddit OfflineThe drawbacks to that is that you wont be running the same version of MS offline as the finance department so if thats a requirement you simply have to bite the bullet and pay the high cost of managing windows laptops. Macs being designed to be secure without additional hardening tools and to live in cafe's around the world is often way cheaper to run for a small it team supporting high value users which is of cause why they keep seeping in through the walls out up by central it at most large companies. The biggest post on most it departments budget is providing the scaffolding and resources needed to support wintel desktops in as secure way, so me dealing with the central IT department is likely to be a lot less hassle cost and frustration then trying to deploy windows laptops on your own. Would be great to hear your thoughts! Thanks! We’d still need Slack because Google Chat can’t replace it Anecdotal, but Google meet hasn’t worked as well as Zoom or Teams Is there an alternative to shared file storage (currently Dropbox, M365 Sharepoint alternative) Supposedly less admin work for deployment and maintenance Everything works from any machine and is integrated well Most people are familiar with it from personal use Now when it comes to Google Workspace, I like that: Is this deployment and maintenance possible without an internal IT department? How much effort would this be? How good is collaboration on documents (this would be mostly Word and Excel) We might set up a database in the future for some of our analytics processes, and M365 would integrate well with Azure MS Teams could replace both Zoom and Slack Individual cloud storage and backups via OneDrive, which could remove the need for a local NAS. Team cloud storage could be done via Sharepoint, so we could ditch Dropbox. Offline apps are great for when there’s no internet connection Staff are familiar with Office products, which I think offer more functionality than Google’s online apps (especially Word and Excel) I see several advantages for Microsoft 365: With regards to the setup, I’m considering Microsoft 365 vs. #Microsoft to do alternative reddit how toIf you have recommendations on how to best do this for such a small but globally dispersed team requiring both software and hardware support - I’m all ears! While it’s not my function, I could take over some limited IT admin work, and we could get 3rd party IT support if needed. Now I want to see if there is a better way, potentially leaving behind the big corporation’s IT and managing our own setup. Individual machines are backed up locally on local NAS/ Synology (which since hybrid work has become a problem and many colleagues are not backed up properly). On top of Windows and Office 2016, we use Dropbox for file sharing and archiving, Slack, Zoom, and some other specific software such as Tableau and an online project management tool. We often work in countries with poor internet connections. Email domains (exchange) is also managed by the corporation, so we need to use zscaler to connect to the VPN in order to access our emails, and it’s a pain. #Microsoft to do alternative reddit windows 10Machines (Lenovo T and X series) are managed by big corporation’s IT regional departments, running Windows 10 and Office 2016 (yes, still!). While having that IT support was great to get us off the ground, it has become quite restrictive to the way we work. Our company is the non-profit entity of a much larger (50,000+) enterprise and until now, we’ve been getting some support in accounting and IT from their respective departments. Ever since COVID, there has been a lot more collaboration between colleagues based in different regions. We’re a small company with 25 people based in 6 different countries (most of them developing countries, HQ in Europe).
